Dime City Cycles and Santiago Chopper Charity Bike Build

Dime City Cycles (DCC) got its start supplying custom parts for the vintage café crowd. Since then, the Florida-based company has expanded into parts for custom street trackers, bobbers and scramblers. DCC has always been much more than just a parts house, however, regularly proving its mettle in the custom class with its own inspired builds, its bikes appearing on Café Racer TV (now Naked Speed), and also in the pages of Motorcycle Classics when we teamed up with them to build a custom 1983 Honda CB1100F.

In 2012, DCC got together with Iron & Air magazine’s Brett Houle and Motorcycle Classics regular contributor Neale Bayly to build a custom café based on a new Triumph T100. The finished bike was given away at the 2013 Barber Festival, with all proceeds going to support Bayly’s charity organization for Peruvian orphans, Wellspring International Outreach. The charity aspect struck a strong chord with DCC: Building cool stuff is satisfying, but, as they discovered, building cool stuff that helps other people live a better life is even more satisfying.

That experience motivated their latest effort, a charity build benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Founded by actor Danny Thomas in 1962, the hospital focuses on the prevention and cure of diseases in children. DCC has teamed up with custom bike builder Alan Bernard of Santiago Choppers, with Bernard supplying the torch and wrenching skills and DCC the parts and the bike, a BMW R90 that will get the full café treatment at Bernard’s Tampa, Florida, shop. When it’s done, the finished R90 café racer will be given away, with all proceeds collected going to St. Jude’s.
